2020 T'ang Studies Society Sponsored Panel at AAS in Boston has been canceled:

The T'ang Studies Society sponsored panel at the Annual Meeting of the Association for Asian Studies has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We encourage the panel to present its papers at a future conference:

Panel 319: After the Heavenly Qaghans: Multi-ethnic Approaches to the Tang-Song Transition

When resources permit, the T’ang Studies Society offers funding for small research grants and travel grants to support scholars studying the Tang dynasty in any discipline. The guidelines for application, deadlines, and other procedures are listed below by grant type. For the research grants, a brief report from the grantee must be submitted to the president of TSS within one month of completing the supported research.

Applicants for these grants must be members of the Society in good standing. If you are not sure if your membership is current, please email the secretary-treasurer at Please note that applicants may only apply for one type of grant in a given calendar year.


In years when funding is available, the Society will announce the competitions early in the calendar year.




Tang Studies and Beyond: A Symposium in Remembrance of Antonino Forte


The T'ang Studies Society is proud to contribute to a conference honoring the late Tang scholar, Antonino Forte, to be held at University of Naples in autumn 2020.


Membership dues include a subscription to the Society's journal Tang Studies as well as eligibility to participate in Society sponsored events. More information on the benefits of membership and dues payment options is available on the Membership page.


Current dues rates are as follows:

    • Individual Memberships: $35

    • Student Memberships: $20
    • Life Memberships: One-time dues payment of 20 times regular membership, currently $700 (November 2016)

As a result of the Society's publication relationship with the Taylor & Francis Group, all current members of the Society have online access to the full run of T’ang Studies back issues. Click HERE for access.
